Potential students are asked to come for an interview, at no charge, before any lessons are conducted. Karen teaches beginning through early advanced students, ages 5 to adult.
Lessons are given weekly:
- 30 minutes: 5- and 6-year-old students only
- *45 minutes and 1 hour
- *45-minute and 1-hour lessons may include computer work addressing ear training, sight-reading, theory and music history.

- Piano course work
- Solos- Students are encouraged to choose music they want to play in addition to Karen’s recommendations.
- Teaching includes emphasis on how to practice, quality use of time, versus quantity use of time.
Students are offered performance opportunities:
Fall semester includes:
- Yamaha Clavinova Festival
- Piano studio holiday CD recorded in December
Spring semester includes:
- New Mexico Federation of Music Clubs Festival in March
- E.M.D.S. Piano Recital in May*
Summer semester includes:
- Mini recitals for parents and siblings
- *May’s recital includes theme material subject to art projects to coincide with the music performed
